Privacy policy

Tidewell is built so that there is very little to say here. This page covers the app, this website, and the email list, in that order.

Last updated

The short version

  • What you log in the Tidewell app stays on your iPhone. Tidewell has no servers and no account system, so we cannot see it.
  • This website sets no cookies and uses one privacy-friendly analytics service that counts visits without identifying you.
  • If you join the email list, we store your email address with our email provider, send you what you signed up for, and nothing else. No open or click tracking.

The app

What the app stores

Everything you enter: hot flashes and night sweats, your morning check-ins, symptoms, bleeding, treatments and their dates, the questions you want to ask, and the profile details you choose to add (a first name, a birth year, and your menstrual status). All of it is stored in a database on your phone, protected by your phone's own encryption.

Where it goes

Nowhere, unless you choose otherwise. There is no Tidewell account and no Tidewell server. The report is rendered on your phone, and if you share it, you share it the way you share any file, to whoever you choose.

If you turn on iCloud sync in Settings, a copy of your data is stored in your own iCloud account using Apple's private database. That copy is encrypted in transit and at rest, is tied to your Apple ID, and is not readable by Tidewell. Apple's own privacy policy governs iCloud. Sync is off by default.

Apple Health

Tidewell can read sleep, wrist temperature, and heart rate variability from Apple Health, and can write hot flashes, night sweats, mood, and some symptoms back. Each direction is off until you turn it on, and you can change your choices at any time in the Health app. Data read from Health is used to fill in the app and the report on your phone and is not copied anywhere else.

Analytics in the app

PLACEHOLDER — state the true position at launch. The intended position: the app contains no analytics, crash reporting, or advertising software and makes no network requests of its own. If you later add Apple's opt-in crash reporting or anything else, say exactly what here.

Deleting your data

Deleting the app deletes everything it stored on your phone. If iCloud sync was on, turn it off and delete the iCloud copy from Settings, or remove Tidewell's data from your iCloud storage settings.

This website

The site is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, has no login, and loads no advertising, social media, or tracking scripts.

Analytics

We use PLACEHOLDER (Plausible Analytics) to count visits. It does not use cookies, does not store your IP address, and does not identify you across sites or visits. We see which pages are read, which country visits come from, and which referrer sent them, in aggregate. We also record a few events in the same way: when the waitlist form is submitted, when the App Store badge is tapped, and when the appointment checklist is printed. None of these include personal information. PLACEHOLDER — link the provider's data policy once chosen.

Hosting

Netlify, based in the United States, serves the site. Like any web host, it may keep short-lived server logs for security and reliability. We do not use those logs to identify visitors.

Links to other sites

Posts link to medical guidelines, research papers, and other apps' pages. Those sites have their own privacy practices.

The email list

If you join the waitlist or newsletter, your email address is stored by PLACEHOLDER (Buttondown), which sends our email. You confirm your subscription by clicking a link in a first email (double opt-in), and you can unsubscribe from any email in one tap. We do not track whether you open emails or what you click. We do not sell, rent, or share the list. Before launch, the list receives at most one email when the app is available; after launch, occasional notes from Tidewell, never more than a few a month. PLACEHOLDER — name the provider's country and link their privacy policy.

Children

The app and site are intended for adults and are not directed at anyone under 16.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you (for the website and the list, that is at most your email address and subscription status), ask us to delete it, or unsubscribe at any time. Email support@tidewell.care. PLACEHOLDER — add the legal basis and supervisory authority language required where you are based (for example UK GDPR or a US state law), and the business name and address.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and material changes are noted here. We do not change what the app does with your data without telling you in the app.
